I think it's because Anya breaks expectations, as Anya is so wont to do, and takes charge of the 'seduction' herself.
I apologize if my railing against Nancy sounded like a criticism of the story itself. Everyone has button issues and infidelity is mine. Some part of me likes to think that Xander learned his lesson with Willow back in high school and he would never do such a thing again.
