These are the troubles we face
Nov. 17th, 2024 08:28 pmOne of the biggest problems Susan and I encounter in our periodic relocations is finding reliable internet. I spend most of my day online, reading and viewing and posting and checking various things; she reads also, though mostly through her phone, but she also watches a lot of streaming television, and frequently has a program going in the background while she reads. The various places we stay … some have better internet, some have worse, but we’ve pretty much never found a place where the internet was REALLY good.
When we’re in a place where reception is particularly poor, I rely a lot on my Kindle, or on simple laptop games, or on reading things I’ve stored on my laptop. (I’ll also go online from my own phone, but nowhere near as much as Susan does.) Susan … gets antsy, and impatient, and starts complaining. Because of that, I’m getting ready to check into the costs of acquiring and using our own mobile hotspot. My biggest concern there is in regard to just how much data we’d run through a hotspot for her streaming TV habit.
Once my Army pension finally got recognized and I began receiving it, our financial position improved; we were doing fairly well before then, but I still was very careful to stay enough ahead that we had a cushion for unexpected expenses. Staying ahead should be easier now, so the hotspot idea is probably something I’ll follow through. I just don’t yet know for sure.
We’re pioneers in our new lifestyle, and everybody knows that pioneers have to face hardships. This is us, bearing up under tribulation.
