[ Written in response to the aside-selenak, but not put into comment to her because I like her and don’t want to start a fight. ]
While differentiating ‘Russian’ from the Communist infiltration that is the subject of the Americans — there may be fewer committed communists in the Russian government today than in American faculty lounges — I’ll agree that the Russian influence on our government has reached levels that shouldn’t have been permitted. When, leading up to the election, the candidate privately assured the Russian ambassador that he’d be able to grant much more favorable treatment once his position was secured, that was improper. When, acting as president, he gave the Russians the serial numbers of the Trident nuclear missiles sold by the U.S. to the U.K., that was deeply problematic. When the State Department approved a sale that would allow a Russian company to purchase 20% of the uranium mined in the U.S., that was something that any responsible person should have questioned —
Oh, wait. That was Barack Obama. And Barack Obama. And Hillary Clinton serving under Barack Obama.
