Observations on writing output
May. 11th, 2011 08:08 pmMy time away at the National Training Center was a lot more demanding than the last such trip. As it happens, though, the very little free time I actually did get to myself went to very good use.
I had, of course, already finished “Hungry Like the Wolf” before taking off for the California desert, and I ran through that a number of times, revising and polishing, with what I believe to be pointed (if minor) improvements. A little over a week in, however, I also found time to tackle a story on which I’d been working since last year … and finished it expeditiously enough. (I’ll probably be posting it within the next day or so.)
With that to hearten me, the next time the pace slacked for a bit (an entire day when I had duties enough, but also long stretches of unused space while waiting for other decisions to be made), I took a shot at another story idea I’d discussed with

And, with the exhilaration still buzzing in my system — imagine, three stories within a space of a little over three weeks! — I tackled another notion I’d had on the back burner for awhile, and finished it in only two days more. Making four stories completed in the month of April! (That last one, I want to work on for awhile longer before putting it up.)
The last few years I’ve wanted to try and turn out one story for each month of the year. It never worked out. This year, it just might.
