Remix efforts begin

 
So, yes, I got my remix assignment in a timely fashion. The name was one I recognized; in fact, I’ve actually met the author, who has a hefty body of work in various fandoms. The upside of that is that it gives me plenty to look at; the (potential) downside is that it gives me a lot of material to wade through.

As it is, I might already know what I’m going to do. It isn’t like last year — I had deird1 as my assigned author, and it took serious research to find the right story to work with, but once I spotted it I knew this was the one for me — but I can see two substantial possibilities. One is to take a particular story in one fandom, maybe combine it with another story, take elements of both and refine and expand and I already know exactly how it would go … Or, there’s another story that just plain sparked an idea in me, and it’s vestigial and would require considerable development and it would take things in an entirely different direction and I’d have to work out a lot of details, but it’s alive and that isn’t something you blithely disregard.

I’ll have to think about it some more, and read some more of the author’s collected works. (I’m not even close to done with all of them. Even with the ones I’ve set aside because I know I’m not sufficiently familiar with the fandoms to tackle anything there, I’m still not to the halfway point yet.) But I suspect that I’ll begin my actual effort in the next day or so.
