In the last couple of days, I got clarification on my scheduling situation. The pre-execution checklist (supposed to be completed before I left home, and necessary for me to continue) was taken care of by my commander and faxed here. The rest of it, though, was changed.

As I mentioned, everyone else in the class will, upon finishing this one, proceed to a follow-up class — also taking place at this facility — that complements what we’re now learning. My original orders seemed to be designed to allow me to do the same, but I was formally enrolled only in the first one.

The decision-makers at my home unit, on learning of the full situation, elected not to put me in the follow-up course, even though I’m already here and it would be a minor matter to add me to the roster. Only a small disappointment (I was offered this class barely nine days ago), and I’m not angry with anyone over it, but it does seem a shame that I won’t be able to finish out what seems to be a consolidated process.

I’ll be another five days here, then on my way back home. And that’s the way it is.
