Hurricane Dean is moving in our general direction, and a lot of our people are paying sharp attention to its speed and projected course. In most of the likely storm tracks, it’ll swing clear of Guantanamo (though Havana might have some problems), but one of the few that could bring it directly at us falls well within its current course. It shouldn’t reach our latitude until Tuesday or late Monday, but over the next day or so I’ll be gathering items for the recommended hurricane kit (to carry to a shelter if need requires). In an obvious but still amusing twist, the detainees in our two highest-security facilities will be better-protected than anyone else at GTMO, including the CO of the joint task force. (Or, for that matter, me.)

I worked several hours late two days this week, and then this morning I got up at 0400 to carry out some special duty. In recompense, I was given an early start on the weekend, released well before lunch. I lost some of that time by immediately plopping down for three hours’ sleep, but I’m still enjoying the extra.

And that’s pretty much it for now.
