Yes, I finally arrived at my duty station. During our in-briefing, I — along with everyone else going through it — was told that an announcement of my posting would be sent to my home-town newspaper, so I suppose there’s no problem with mentioning my location. (I suspected that would be the case, but I wanted to stay on the side of caution until I had hard information.) I’m doing the next six months here at Guantanamo Bay, and it makes a welcome change from Iraq and Afghanistan. It also means that I’ve now covered all three of the major arenas in the GWOT.

(No, my duty has nothing to do with guarding/ interrogating/ abusing detainees. There are plenty of other jobs here, even if that’s the only one that ever makes the news.)

I waited longer than I should have to start my [livejournal.com profile] remix_redux assignment, and then got hit with delays that were readily foreseeable. Still, I allowed myself such indulgence because I’ve learned some of my capabilities, and I was right: I finished the story last night — longer than I had expected, but within the range I considered likely — and now I have a little time to go through it before I have to submit it. It may be as late as early evening on the 14th before I feel that it’s completely ready for submission, but the tough part is over.

I see on my flist that [livejournal.com profile] sroni is back in Hong Kong, and thus reachable again through conventional means. I’ll be wanting to hear details of her time in mainland China.

That’s it. I still have things to do, and my proofreading/ submission work has to be fitted into an actual duty day.
