Yesterday, at the opening of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), I stayed home ― as planned ― and wrote almost 3,800 words.

Unfortunately, none of it was for NaNoWriMo, or even further work on the “God Save the Queen” revision. It wasn’t even a Buffy story.

I really meant to make a good start. I went to bed at a decent hour the night before, got up early enough to have plenty of day to work with … but in the interim a new story had come to me, a fully-formed story arriving literally in a dream, and I had no choice but to follow through. When something like that is dropped on you, an unsolicited gift, you have to honor it.
