It seems to me that looking at a character through different eyes is a continuing practice for me; I’ve done it, in one fashion or another, repeatedly throughout my Buffyfic, and it never loses its appeal for me. This particular one was based on discussions Susan and I had shared back when the show was still on, meaning LONG ago. It essentially popped up in my head full-blown, and the writing wasn’t really difficult for me. (I did get a colleague to download the episode so I could check my memory of events, and had to make some adjustments to accommodate, but that wound up improving the end result in flow and content as well as in accuracy.)
As for where and how much Buck Greene might be wrong in his analyses, I’d say that corresponds with something I observed in a different context: “True as far as it goes, but reality goes farther.”
