I’m pleased to have attracted attention, and more so that bellatemple’s recommendation had something to do with it. I made a few significant changes to the structure of the story based on her beta analysis.
I have a tendency to start things in the middle of the action; what you saw here is fairly well reflective of my common practice. It just seems to work out better, which is fortunate since it is so strongly my own preference.
As for the less-than-ideal personal circumstances, they seem (in my case) to be more conducive to writing than the vicissitudes of Real Life. I’ve now done more stories while in war zones than I have from the safety of home. Something about fewer distractions.
