It wasn’t inevitable.

Once Dru saw something, she treated it like destiny, like Fate’d make the prophecy come true. Spike knew better. Where he was? result of choices.

Choices he’d resisted. Choices he’d hated. Choices he’d hated himself for making, and fought every step of the bloody way.

He was love’s bitch, not Fate’s. He made his own fate.

If he ended up loving the bloody Slayer, it wasn’t ’cause of some sodding destiny, but because who he was took him to who he’d become.

Wasn’t inevitable. None of it was inevitable.

I personally feel the Buffy/Spike relationship to have been a total train wreck on every possible level. I recognize that mine is not the most popular opinion, though … besides which, the drabble was written from his POV, and I can absolutely believe that this is how he saw it.
