Ireland/China 2025, continuing (35)
Twenty-fifth day in China – July 15 Tuesday
I woke up just before 9:00AM, and Susan was apparently roused by my first activities because she got up a few minutes later. I went ahead and put together our breakfast, and we settled into our common routine.
About 11:30 I went downstairs to do some minor shopping … but the 7‑Eleven didn’t actually have the things I was looking for, so I went on and got hot food for an early lunch. When I got back, I found that Kevin had succeeded in getting our daughter Roni added to our WeChat contacts (or maybe she’d successfully linked up with him), so now we have another means of connecting as a family. Which will be useful, because Facebook Messenger didn’t always work that well for Kevin, and now Susan and I are having issues getting it to work while we’re in China. That’s done, then.
In the afternoon I called up Duolingo — and some web pages of useful conversational phrases — and tried to build up a bit of Chinese vocabulary. Long-term thinking, and I probably won’t manage much of it before time for us to leave, but if Susan gets her wish of having us live here for a while, that should help.
About 6:15PM I went downstairs to McDonald’s, having translated our desired order in advance so I could show it on my phone. That helped, and I brought a couple of burger meals (plus McNuggets) back up for myself and Susan.
After we said our daily Rosary, I did some more writing on the story I’m doing for Amber. Not as much as yesterday, but enough to match the quota I’ve set myself.
Both of us stayed up later today than has been our custom, but Susan was ready for bed before midnight, and myself not far behind her.
