Ireland/China 2025, continuing (24)
Fourteenth day in China – July 4 Friday
I got up shortly after 8:00AM, Susan up already.
Happy Birthday, America. Next year, a quarter of a millennium old.
Uneventful morning. Kevin came over somewhat before noon, and took us out to lunch at a place down the block called Commune. (Along with my meal, I had a margarita, which actually tasted more like a whisky sour, except no whisky taste.) On the way back, we stopped at the Baker & Spice across the street — Susan loved the place when we were here two years ago — and they got cups of iced coffee while we talked about nothing in particular.
More general visiting back at our apartment, then Kevin went his way. Joy was supposed to pick me up for our last ATM visit; she arrived maybe 2:30PM, and we went to take care of that. I not only got enough to complete the nanny’s ¥30,000 payment, I got some extra to pad Susan’s and my available cash. When she got back to the apartment with me, she and Susan conferred to place an online order through the local Sam’s Club (yep, Sam’s Club in China) for more food for our larder.
At 7:00 I went downstairs to the next-door McDonald’s, and brought back a couple of quarter-pounder meals.
After his latest visit to the hospital, Kevin came by the apartment about 9:45PM. I gave him the ¥30,000 for the nanny, and he stayed talking about different things till 11:20.
After that, it was time to get ready for bed.
