So, still three days till the author reveal at Remix Redux. I signed up for Remix Madness this year as well, but got hit with other stuff and wasn’t able to do anything … but nobody remixed me, either, so I don’t feel guilty.

While we wait for that April 18th deadline, here are some recs from my own reading.

First Dream (the Readiness Remix)”.
Man in Motion (the Free Falling Remix)”.
Good Girl (The People Are Talking Remix)”.
The Ropes (the Once and Again Upon a Time remix)”.
Anyone Can Tell”, by [livejournal.com profile] likeadeuce. What? Sometimes I like the original story better than the remix.

I note that in this year’s remix, there were only fourteen Buffyverse stories. So many talented writers remain in the fandom, with (apparently) new ones continuing to come in, it’s been easy to lose sight of the fact that BtVS and A:tS have been over now for more than a decade. The day may come when only ancient diehards like me remain. Not here yet, but it may come.

On that note, it’s now fifteen years since I wrote my first Buffyfic. That’s longer than I’ve spent doing anything else in my life. How weird is that?

Wow! I thought I was an old-timer for being at this for a decade. I doff my cap to you!

I started following the show in the first season; it was something I could share with my kids, during a separation preceding divorce, and I would videotape the episodes and watch with them whenever we had time together. I might not even have continued following the show if not for that, because it interested me but not that keenly at the beginning. Then, somewhere toward the midpoint of Season 3, I accidentally discovered the existence of something called “fanfiction” … and, a few months later, saw a contest on a fanfic site and decided I could do as well as some of the stuff I’d been reading. It’s been a sleigh ride ever since, and continues to bring me pleasure and diversion.

We have something in common there. I had followed the show off and on, but became far, far keener when I found fanfiction. Golly! Oh, and by the way - you were right. You are definitely one of the better writers out there.

Thanks. It’s really very simple:

1. Write the kind of stuff you like to read.
2. Like good stuff.
